Shure Wireless Shines at The Gala Performance of G20 Hangzhou Summit

Shure Axient® Wireless Management Network, ULX-D® Digital Wireless Systems and PSM®1000 Personal Monitor Systems Power the Spectacular Performance on West Lake

Hong Kong, October 2016 A spectacular symphonic water show, “Impression West Lake”, was presented to all visiting leaders during the evening gala at the Group of Twenty (G20) meeting in Hangzhou, China. Shure, the world’s leading manufacturer of audio equipment, provided a flawless audio solution to power this mission-critical live-sound application.

The unique water show was held on the picturesque West Lake where the symphony orchestra, choir and singers performed on a floating stage. Due to the mobile nature of the floating stage and the use of many movable stage props, it was critical that the sound system could pick up the orchestra music and the performers’ vocals precisely.

To ensure superb audio quality, Shure 32-channel Axient® Wireless Management Network, 18-channel ULX-D® Digital Wireless System and 10-channel PSM®1000 Personal Monitoring System were installed for the show. Moreover, multiple antenna setup was employed to deliver a reliable wireless signal reception in this large performance area sized at 100m by 30m.

Shure flagship wireless system Axient was used by the main performers as well as solo instrumental performances. The system features highly advanced planning and control capabilities that are able to preemptively respond to different spectrum management needs. Defining a new class of RF management tools, Axient Spectrum Manager offers wide-band UHF spectrum scanning, spectrum analysis and compatible frequency coordination. The Frequency Diversity mode of the system enables audio transmission from a single source on two independent radio frequencies. This feature allows receivers to seamlessly switch to other frequencies, delivering clean and uninterrupted audio.

In addition, the rigorous demands of the grand-scale water show also benefitted from the Shure ULX-D Digital Wireless System, offering a dynamic range over 120 dB for a clear, uncompressed and untainted signal transmission of musical instrument sound pickup.

The Shure PSM1000 is the standard bearer when it comes to wireless personal monitoring systems. The full-rack, dual-channel, networkable transmitter is ideally suited for the demands of professional touring and installation applications like the “Impression West Lake” performance. Given its excellent RF performance with a diversity bodypack receiver and a wide frequency range up to 72MHz, Shure PSM 1000 Personal Monitoring System provided the show’s music conductors, performers and singers with unparalleled sound quality in the midst of a complex RF signal environment.

The rechargeable Shure SB900 Lithium-ion Batteries, which can provide up to 10 hours of continuous use, were paired with the ULX-D and PSM1000 wireless systems at the show, enabling battery life precision tracking and charge cycle details.

Furthermore, the audio team decided to go for the Shure Wireless Workbench (WWB) software for full monitoring of the frequency network on multiple computers. WWB offers rich interface to manage every facet of a performance over the network, from preshow planning to live performance monitoring. The audio team could utilize the saved scan files in the RF History during rehearsals to provide details about the RF environment. During the show, the WWB software provided real-time monitoring of the network with live remote adjustments, making it easy for the sound engineers to monitor the frequency, audio gain, RF output power, battery life and other information for each channel of the wireless systems.

Shure wireless systems have been widely used in numerous large-scale international summits and events in China, such as the APEC summit and the G20 summit, for their unparalleled audio quality, pristine technologies and stability, and each time with tremendous success.
