Tim Levinson (alias Urthboy) is a Hip-Hop MC and Producer from Sydney, best known as part of the band The Herd. He has also released three solo albums, Distant Sense of Random Menace, The Signal and Spitshine, released in August, 2009.

Tim has been a fan of Shure products for several years and a few weeks ago he took delivery of a Shure PSM600 Wireless Personal Monitor System which he uses alongside the traditional stage wedges.

”I’ve only had the in-ear monitors for five weeks and although at first they were tricky to get used to, but now we’ve found a healthy balance between monitoring in one ear and the other ear monitoring from stage,” Tim revealed. “This means we are able to hone in and adjust our vocal levels during parts of the set where we need a little bit more precision and a more specific idea of what’s going on. Other times we can just allow the vibe of the room to provide all that we need to be able to perform.”

Tim reports that his Shure PSM600 system gives him a more precise understanding of what he is hearing enabling more accurate harmonization and easier understanding of what his fellow vocalists on stage are doing.

“It’s been really helpful, a huge benefit,” he added. “We also have Shure Beta58 wireless mics with UH transmitters. They work really well, they’re really solid and have the extra benefit of using AA batteries that last a lot longer and so are much better for touring. The previous wireless mics that I’ve had used 9 volt batteries that are quite expensive and don’t last as long as AA’s.”

Sharing the stage with Urthboy is Producer / DJ Elgusto (AKA Angus Stuart) who won’t use any other needle than the Shure M44-7 - the needle of choice for many champion DJ's worldwide. Solid and durable, the M44-7 is engineered for scratch DJ's and turntablists.

“It’s most definitely my preferred choice ever since I started getting into scratching about seven years ago,” commented Angus. “It really is the industry standard when it comes to skip-resistance. It’s always been a sturdy, good quality cartridge.

”I also use the Shure SRH840 headphones which are wonderful. They provide crystal clear sound and are the most comfortable headphones I’ve ever worn.”

Designed for professional audio engineers and musicians, the SRH840 Professional Monitoring Headphones from Shure are optimised for studio recording and critical listening. A precisely tailored frequency response and 40mm neodymium dynamic drivers combine with total comfort and durability to provide the ultimate listening experience.
