Realizing Dualdyne™ meant reinventing
how mics are made. Watch the video.
Achieving the sound quality demanded by elite performers and venues no longer requires sacrificing the rugged reliability of a dynamic microphone.
The KSM8 Dualdyne™ features a patented cartridge design with two ultra-thin diaphragms and groundbreaking reverse airflow technology, which renders significant technological advancements that make the KSM Dualdyne a game-changer in live sound.
The KSM8 Dualdyne™. A dynamic microphone revolution that only Shure could stage.
Shure develops Unidyne® cartridge technology, which rejects sound from the rear of the microphone to reduce signal feedback.
Shure advances dynamic cartridge technology with the Unidyne III cartridge, featuring the pneumatic shock mount, which drastically reduces handling noise.
Shure Dualdyne™ cartridge technology provides unmatched sonic accuracy in a dynamic cartridge while all but eliminating proximity effect.
Excellent control of proximity effect entails extension of effective working distance (“sweet spot”) to an unprecedented range from 0 to 5 inches, which offers a consistent sound despite microphone technique varies among different users.
Experience it like never before – the flattest mid-high frequency response ever seen on a dynamic microphone. With proximity effect virtually eliminated, KSM8 is capable of reproducing warm, natural and open sound accurately with little or no EQ required.
KSM8 Dualdyne™ offers a more linear response on axis with improved rear rejection. This results in a more consistent sounding microphone even if the sound source is off axis.
Lined with hydrophobic woven fabric for exceptional protection against wind, plosives and water, the KSM8 Dualdyne™ grille is durability redefined.
Protecting and stabilizing the active diaphragm during plosives and impact, the DSS greatly reduces high-frequency handling noise.
Controlled proximity effect vastly increases the working distance without on-axis coloration, delivering the most accurate frequency response available in a dynamic microphone.
An elaborate architecture of tuned cavities, specific resistances, and precisely machined components is fully integrated into the cartridge’s acoustic properties, dramatically reducing handling noise without loss of low-end response.
The first thing I noticed about the KSM8 was how nice it looked; however, its good looks were very soon eclipsed by how great it sounded. The highs sounded silky and transparent with an equally impressive and very tight low-end response. Proximity effect is greatly reduced, leading me to bypass my compressor for the entire show. This is an excellent microphone and will be my first choice in vocal mic selection going forward.
Al’s mic technique is as varied as his vocal stylings, which range from beatboxing and vocal percussion to quiet whispers. The KSM8 excels across the board at both FOH and monitors, which is rare. This mic makes mixing the band’s IEMs, monitors, and FOH much easier. It brings high-end clarity naturally, without the need for additional processing and EQ.
The KSM8 is stellar. I can say unequivocally that the KSM8 surpasses every other dynamic vocal mic I’ve tried. The polar pattern, proximity control, and flat top-end response give this mic a very wide and deep sweet spot that’s perfect for corporate events.
The KSM8 is a phenomenal mic for IEMs. It’s the only mic I can use with in-ears that sounds natural in the low end. It’s crazy how little processing and EQ it needs. The off-axis bleed is so clean that it immediately cleared up my in-ear mix.
The off-axis rejection is amazing. Low-frequency response is very smooth, and high-frequency response is noticeably enhanced. I definitely noticed nice proximity control, too. It’s an exceptionally well-designed microphone.
Warm and natural! I barely used any EQ or processing, which is every engineer’s dream! I think you have a real winner here. The KSM8’s versatility sets it apart.
I used the wireless KSM8 for a corporate gig, and I love the off-axis response! The CEO got far away and off axis with minimal audible change. It was stable even in a very odd PA design. The working distance is huge on this mic and made my job so much easier!
